Dismounting Tires:
Next we will be discussing how to dismount go-kart racing tires. I choose to use the Ultimate Bead Breaker by
Rebel Fabrications.
It is, by far, the easiest way to change a tire, and the cost is in line with what you would pay for the collection of other tools you would need to do the same job.
Ok, first we remove the
valve core.
Place the tire and rim on the
bead breaker.
Make sure the rim is fully inside the ring on the bead breaker or it will shatter the rim. You should probably wear safety glasses. Once the tire is in place, crank the jack up until the tire breaks loose on both sides. I find it works better when the shallow side of the wheel in facing up.
Now, release the jack and put the tire on top of the bead breaker. There is a pin that fits inside one of the wheel lug holes to hold it securely in place. Place the
tire tool
so that the flat side is between the tire and the rim. Push down on the opposite side of the wheel while pulling the handle of the tire tool back towards the center. There is a ring on the tool that fits into the center of the wheel. The
top
of the bead breaker may need to be adjusted to fit approximately flush with the center of the wheel for this to work correctly. Spin the tool until the tire works up around the rim.
Remove the tire
by pulling it at an angle against the rim. Install the new tire using the instructions provided elsewhere in the tech section of the web site.
