INTRODUCTION:
The project is to setup a sprint style (road racing) kart for speedway (oval track) racing. I will start with a rolling chassis and walk through the steps necessary to make the switch.
For my chassis I have chosen a Margay Brava 4.4, but since this chassis is way out of my budget, I used a GatorMoto XR Chassis Kit instead. This is an entry level kart, but is well built and has good support from the distributor. It should be noted that this brand is not legal in WKA sanctioned events which requires all speedway karts to be built in the U.S.A., but should work very well in local "clone" classes, which is exactly what it was designed for. There are few reasons for purchasing a sprint chassis for speedway use. Ordinarily, if purchasing a new kart you would just get an offset chassis. However, you may already have a chassis that you just want to use, or you may be a road course racer that needs to run on an oval track, such as at Fast Track Raceway in Indiana.
