This time I would like to discuss installing a remote kill switch, or button as the case may be. This is not only a convenience, it is a good safety feature. I will be installing mine on a chassis with a 'Clone' motor. Other motors probably work in a similar way.

The first step is to get a kill button. I bought mine on eBay for a few dollars. They are also available from several kart parts suppliers for about the same price. What you will get is a button and a long wire. The purpose is that when the button is pressed it will ground the ignition system and stall the engine.

I attached my button to the steering wheel support just above the seat. Then I ran the wire under the seat, zip tied to the rail, and plugged it into the plug where I previously had removed the low oil sensor. I did have to change the plug so they were the same. That took a few minutes.

At testing I found that it did not work. I ran a short ground wire from the screw that attached the button down to a screw that was attached to the frame rail by the seat. This solved the problem and it works beautifully now.

The important thing to remember when positioning the button is that it should be easy to reach it quickly in an emergency, but it should not be in a place that you will bump it during a race and stall your engine. I hope this article has been of some help.
