Mounting Tires:

First, remove the valve core and leave it out until the tire is mounted. Slip tire over wheel, starting with smaller side, usually the inside, of the wheel. Keep the tire at an angle (approximately 30°) to the rim during this process. Once the tire is started over the wheel, lower the first part down to clear the lip on the inside of the wheel. This will give the tire more clearance to go onto the wheel easier. Work around the wheel until the whole tire is on. Tire lubrication on the bead may help. Continue to work the second side of the tire onto the wheel.

Next, make sure tire is even on wheel. This will help the bead seat easier. Now, place a tire band over the tire. This will make the bead seat under much less pressure, making it safer and easier. Lubricate tire bead and the rim of the wheel. Tire Snot or dish soap work well for this. As a last resort WD-40 will also work, but try to avoid using lubricants. They make the tire go on easier, but they may also help it come off easier when you don't want it to come off.

Tighten the tire band down. Put the air chuck on the valve stem. I use a remote chuck that locks onto the stem and gets my hand away from the tire when adding air. Set the tire on the ground or workbench as it would normally be mounted on the kart, with the valve stem to the side, not up. Air up until the bead pops, usually around 50 - 60 pounds. The tire safety warning will probably give you a much lower pressure, about 40 PSI, so go above this only if you feel confident in the safety of the situation.

Next, release the air and remove the tire band. Replace the valve core and inflate to the desired pressure. If you are unsure, start around 10 PSI and work up or down depending on the kart's handling at the track. Balance the tire(s). If you don't have a fancy balancing machine, put each wheel, one at a time, on a front hub and balance it.Here's the finished product. To dismount tire, look here.
